Add a Website to Your Mac Dock: Safari Web App or Otterdock Link

Use Safari’s web app feature when you want a website to open in its own app-like window. Keep a normal web link when you want to open it in your usual browser or group it with the apps and files for a project.

Create a Safari web app

On macOS Sonoma 14 or later, open the page in Safari, then choose File → Add to Dock. You can also use the Share button in Safari and choose Add to Dock. Give the web app a name and click Add. Apple says it is saved in the Applications folder in your home folder and can be opened from the Dock or Spotlight. See Apple’s guide to Safari web apps on Mac.

What changes in a Safari web app?

A Safari web app runs separately from Safari. It does not share browsing history, cookies, website data, or settings with Safari. That separation can suit a site you want to use in its own window or with a separate session. If you need Safari tabs or bookmarks, switch back to Safari.

Keep a website link with a project group

Otterdock groups can include ordinary web links alongside apps, files, and folders. A link remains a regular URL: selecting it opens it in your default browser. Otterdock does not convert the link into a Safari web app or change the browser’s behavior. This can be useful when a project’s reference pages belong beside its local tools.
